The Luckenwalde train station had something special and more to offer than timetables. A modern library should complement education; support life-long learning is a special way or just offer good entertainment and meaningful leisure activities.

It became necessary to revive the rotten and unused empty station building. The idea of "Library in the Station" offers its citizens as well as visitors again a lively train station.

The surrounding of the train station has been adapted  through extensive redesigns to cater for the needs of the travellers. The "Haus der Begegnung und Kommunikation' (House of encounter and communication) with 45000 media units opened its gates in 2008 as media and information centre.
